Serious Plans Under Way to Stop Locust Plagues via Directional Sound Waves

An online think tank member and concept designer has been studying the aerodynamics of insect flight; specifically bees and locusts and now he believes has figured out the puzzle which has literally plagued mankind since ancient times. How to stop locust swarms from devastating human civilizations. How so you ask?

Mr. Warren Powers has drawn out plans to test a concept of using directional sound waves to control and stop locust storms. In his announcement of the concept Mr. Warren states; “It seems to me a reasonable place to begin would be to create a curtain or “plane” of sound or a “sound wall” or “sound barrier” through which the locusts would fly and that wall of sound could be a few feet thick and a couple hundred yards long, a few dozen yards tall. That space would look like a rectangle in the air placed in the path of an oncoming swarm.”

Yes in concept this could work. But do locust swarms have any rhyme or reason or known shape to them? Hard to say, but I think they do actually, although I would have to study this. I am pretty into swarm theory from an offense and defense standpoint of nature and battlespace AI future of net-centric warfare. If we built a vertical virtual 4D sound wall then as the swarm bunches up, the power level must be increased. What the swarm would do, since we are dealing with an organic evolved creature, which has never dealt with such a sound wall is probably continue rather than evade it.

Although they might turn around or mutate the swarm’s shape or direction due to the bunching up of traffic jam, which would be the same if they encountered an obstacle, a tree, mountain, rock or building and that we know they can do and have evolved to deal with, obstacle avoidance. Now then, we need a secondary unit to close off the sides and backs of the swarm or several such units. And if all hell breaks lose [as if a locust plague is not already nearly there] then those operating such machinery need to be protected too.

No one knows for sure if Warren Powers strategy will work, but judging by the laws of physics it appears it is possible and that is good enough a reason to go for it, as everyone knows how devastating Locust Plagues can be. Imagine this in 2006.

Write Anything That Comes To Mind!

I just finished writing an article about Gichin Funakoshi, the “Father” of modern karate.

Looking over the piece, I found myself feeling very pleased, and not because I think its exposition is great.

I’m pleased because I selected the topic, I chose to make it an article, and I selected the publication completely on my own.

It’s exactly what I wanted to write, and literally, it was the first topic that popped into my mind this morning.

I’m sharing this with you because you can do the same thing, providing you post your articles at: www.ezinearticles.com, or at a similar site.

You aren’t restricted to writing in any single category.

I’m expert in a few fields, to be sure, but it gives me great joy to till some new ones, every now and then.

For instance, I’ve written at least a half-dozen articles lately about major league baseball, and I’ve published about the same number of reviews of movies that pertain to the martial arts.

I think this is what being a journalist, and in a larger sense, what being a speaker and a communicator, are all about.

We should feel free to write in whatever areas we choose. It’s a way of expanding our craft, our trade skills, and our value.

I pity those who are writing exactly the same piece, hundreds of times over.

Norman Corwin said:

“I believe there is in every ambitious writer, potential talent that he/she may not even recognize, because they haven’t been afforded a chance to write imaginatively or in a way that calls on deep resources.”

So, stretch a little. I think you’ll like it!

Dealing With Stress in Your Marriage

Marriage can be wonderful experience. However, it can go down hill after being married for several years. Sometimes you just seem to lose your magic that you once had in your relationship. This can create allot of stress in your life.

In many cases you may be stressed out over finances or how to raise your children. This is often because you failed to come to the conclusion about what the two of you wanted before you got married.

Where most of these problems occur is when the two of you don’t spend time together. All the arguing and lack of communication take over the relationship. It’s time that you start taking time for one another again.

For starters you should set time aside each week for just the two of you. You can have a romantic dinner and stay in. You could go out for a dinner and do some dancing. Go do something for just the two of you.

Text messaging is something that has really caught on. Every once in awhile you can send your loved one a little romantic message. Don’t over do this as they will start to get used to it.

Get creative and be romantic. Start thinking of things that your partner enjoys doing and appreciates. This could be breakfast in bed, buying them flowers, and chocolate.

If you can’t spend time together or communicate well then you will need help from an outside party. Usually this will be a marriage counsellor or maybe even the pastor at your church. This will require a huge commitment and time on your part. This really is the final straw in the relationship. If a third party can’t help you then your headed to a divorce.

A major part of dealing with stress in your marriage is catching it on time. This means you can’t feel like there is space between you. You need to make sure your communicating at a high level in your relationship.

Chocolate – A Health Food?

In this article we’re going to discuss the health benefits of chocolate, if indeed there are any at all.

Let’s be honest. If you’re a normal person you love chocolate. Otherwise the industry itself wouldn’t be so profitable. How many of us didn’t like to chow down for a snack of Oreo cookies and milk or just a big hot fudge sundae at the local ice cream shop? Of course there is always the nice big piece of seven layer cake with that thick chocolate icing.

The list of things chocolate goes on and on and with that list also goes all the health warnings of how chocolate is bad for you. But is it?

Health warnings and benefits, for the most part, need to be taken with a grain of salt only because it seems that what was bad for you ten years ago suddenly has health benefits we knew nothing about, and things that we were told to eat when we were children all of sudden cause problems we didn’t even know existed years ago. So, is chocolate one of those things?

Well, the latest information about chocolate, most recently reported in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, was that chocolate, when added to an already healthy diet, provided antioxidant benefits and actually increased a person’s high density lipoprotein (HDL), or what is called “good cholesterol.” One of the antioxidant benefits was that it impedes the oxidation of the “bad cholesterol.”

What most people don’t know is that the study was made on only twenty-three subjects which is nowhere near a large enough sample to draw any conclusions from. Also, when taking a very close look at the article itself, it clearly states that the benefits were small at best. It also went on to say that because the differences in the numbers were so small, it would need to be determined if these differences were significant enough to produce an improvement in health that could be measured.

Many experts say that the study was over-hyped because of possible ties to manufacturers in the chocolate industry itself. And while no wrong doing was ever proven, the suspicions still grew. Defenders of the cocoa bean itself argued that it is commonly known that many substances we don’t normally associate with good health have antioxidant benefits, such as tea, so why not chocolate?

What the study didn’t mention was all the things that chocolate has that are certainly not good for you. For example, chocolate as a high level of stearic acid, which is a saturated fat. Saturated fats are directly related to high cholesterol levels and increased risk of coronary artery disease and coronary death. Chocolate supporters say that stearic acid is not like other saturated fats. Yet, a study of 80,000 women over the age of 14 who all ate large amounts of chocolate, showed that these women had a much greater chance of heart disease.

No doubt the battle over how healthy or not healthy chocolate is for a person will go on. And while it does, we will continue to eat our Oreo cookies and seven layer chocolate cakes. Isn’t life wonderful?

Pakistan Earth Quake Donation Appeal

Hindu Kush Mountains of Pakistan was hit by an earth quake which had a magnitude of 7.6 on Sunday, October 9, 2005, sending tremors across South Asia. The worst ever earth quake witness by Pakistan.

The origin of earth quake was 80 km (50 miles) E of Mingaora (Pakistan), 130 km (80 miles) N of ISLAMABAD (Pakistan), 155 km (95 miles) SW of Gilgit (Pakistan), Kashmir (Pakistan) 160 km (100 miles) SE of Chitral (Pakistan).

The depth of Earth quake in Pakistan was 10.0 kilometers.

According to media reports, more than 30,000 people died in Kashmir (Pakistan) alone during Saturday’s earthquake and 42,397 people had been injured. 16 army personnel were killed in a bunker collapse in Uri sector of Kupwara. 200 soldiers of Pakistan army were killed on duty.

Officials said Balakot (Pakistan), a village of about 30,000, was one of the hardest-hit areas. At least 250 pupils were feared trapped inside the rubble of the four-story school, and at least a dozen bodies were strewn on the streets.

Aftershocks rattled the region for hours afterwards, and hospitals moved earth quake victims onto lawns, fearing tremors could cause more damage.

The US Geological Survey reported 22 aftershocks in the 24 hours after the quake, including a 6.2-magnitude temblor.

Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao said that “around 11,000 of the dead were in Muzaffarabad (Pakistan).” This report was previously attributed to CNN, which “has not confirmed that figure.”

Minister Tariq Farooq said that more than 30,000 people have died in Kashmir (Pakistan). He also added that “There are cities; there are towns which have been completely destroyed. Muzaffarabad (Pakistan) is devastated,”

Chief military spokesman Major-General Shaukat Sultan said: “We are handling the worst disaster in Pakistan’s history.”

Muzaffarabad (Pakistan) the hardest hit area, earth quake left nothing just tears in the eyes, nothing left, and the village turns into to plain land. Rescuer’s tried to approach Muzaffarabad from three different directions but have failed. All roads have been blocked by landslides. The roads are damaged and it is impossible to approach Muzaffarabad from any direction. The only way to approach to reach the area is helicopters but nothing arrived yet.

Injured people covered by shawls lay in the street, waiting for medical care. Residents carried bodies on wooden planks. The bodies of four children, aged between four and six years old, lay under a sheet of corrugated iron. The situation is worse and they all need help, but didn’t reached yet, the rescuer works and villagers are trying to clear the road that is blocked by land slides but it will take time.

Some victims have lamented the lack of help from the government, as winter is approaching and the people don’t have shelter or blankets, the situation is miserable.

Help victims of Earth quake, donate any thing you can from a drop of water to million of rupees all matter to them as they need attention of all the people worldwide.

Who’s Running Your Business?

Recently I took my son Trent to purchase more school uniform items. He’s a growing (very fast) 13 year old, and it was time for more clothing. When the school pants no longer drag on the ground and the hem barely reaches his ankles you know it is time.

Anyhow we went to a school uniform shop nearby which we hadn’t previously been to. Trent insisted we go there as they apparently stocked the longer sports shorts he wanted and the usual place we went to didn’t have them.

Well what an experience it was. Firstly the shop was in a time warp. They had probably been there for decades and nothing internally had changed. You didn’t know who the staff were, in fact when we finally found them they looked like they had been dragged out of bed to come to work. The only exception was the older lady who seemed to be the boss. The girls who were in their early 20’s looked scruffy and were very unhelpful. They stood around watching the older lady work and only did something when she asked them to. They had no initiative whatsoever and you had to (or should I say I had to) tell them what to do.

The older lady later told me that the actual owner of the business, never listened to her suggestions to make improvements, in fact he hardly ever visited the store.

Actually it was interesting watching her in action. In her position she could have taken charge and taught those girls how to deal with the customers and let them use their initiative. Even though she was disgruntled about the owner, she could have changed her own situation. Because she appeared to be the only person who knew about the stock and styles that would suit, she was run off her feet with the customers. The least she could have done was to organise the girls so that one was at the counter handling the sales and returning stock to the shelves and the other one assisting her with the customers’ needs.

The amount of money this business could have been making if it was run properly would be enormous.

There’s a couple of interesting points that come out of this story…

1. The older lady although she was disgruntled with the situation, didn’t take charge (and she certainly was in a position to do so) and unhappily continued to work there.More than likely she had been there for years and didn’t have the skills or self-esteem to make her role better. How many people do you know who stick at their jobs because they fear they may not find another one or aren’t prepared to get out of their comfort zones to improve themselves? Of course, the business owner should have invested in staff training etc. however if they don’t and you want to improve, would you invest time, energy and money in becoming better? Because if you’re not getting better, you’re probably getting worse.

2. How many businesses are run by untrained staff while the business owner is too busy to notice what is happening inside their own business?

3. And why are many business owners in business? They will generally tell you they are in business to make money yet if you look at how many business are run, they may as well be in business to lose money.

And as a result of our lifechanging experience, there is no way we will ever set foot in that shop again! My son is only in Year 8 so that leaves another 4 years to go before he finishes high school. How many more times will I need to buy more school uniform items because he’s a growing boy? A few more that’s for sure.

And being a boy he’s more than likely going to be more hard-wearing on his clothing than what my daughter was when she was at school.

By the way, we also had to buy him another pair of school shoes in the same shopping strip. The staff in that store were fantastic and guess where we’ll definitely spend more of our money?

Have a great week!

Why Playing the Piano by Ear Can Slow You Down Creatively

You’ve all heard the expression "play piano by ear" right? This refers to a musician’s ability to pick out a tune, harmonize it, and figure out the rest of the song along the way.

A great skill to have no doubt. But, just having the ability to play by ear won’t help you create your own music. Why? Because you still have to be able to improvise freely – a skill that is quite different than just picking out tunes on the piano.

Playing by ear assumes that you want to learn how to play other peoples music. Guitarists do this all the time. They’ll sit around in front of the stereo strumming along to their favorite songs trying to figure out the chord changes.

Eventually they get it and can play these songs. Pretty impressive right?

But what if this same guitar player took these chords and relied on the heart instead of the ear to guide him? What if this guitarist decided not to try and imitate or copy what they "heard" on the radio and instead took those same chords and created something new and original? That’s playing by heart!

It’s very hard for most of us to trust our own intuitions. We’re constantly being told we’re not good enough, or not ready, but by trusting your own intuitive mind first, you leap from way ahead of those who can only copy or imitate. You learn that there is another way of playing. A way where copying is not necessary and only serves to slow down creativity.

Look, there’s nothing wrong with learning from those you love, but at some point, you’re going to want to create something on your own. And unless you’ve exercised your intuition a little, you’re going to have a hard time "coming up" with something. But, if we start out by trusting our own hearts and ourselves, we can quickly bypass this "copying" and launch directly into our own unique creations!

Gain knowledge About the Breathtaking Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is said to be the largest occupied castles on the globe & the eldest in nonstop occupation (about nine hundred years). It’s 1 of the Queen’s three formal homes, and is tine and time again alleged to be easily her most favourite home. The Royal flag flutters over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle whenever the Queen is in residence – nevertheless, at alternative times, the Union Jack banner flutters as normal.

Samuel Pepys proclaimed the Castle to be “the most romantic castle in the world.” That was thought in sixteen sixty six & the same is true even today.

Windsor Castle Interesting History: Visit Windsor Castle UK today with Enjoy England.

The building of Windsor were in the early 7th century Saxon village of Windlesora, where the recent day village of Old Windsor is. The settlement of Windsor is more accurately recognised as the “New Windsor” – the phrase “new” being used in a strictly relative sense!

Windsor Castle at the outset was erected by the illustrious William the Conqueror, owing to his assault of England in ten sixty six. The original structure was constructed from lumber with ground walls. The Castle held an obvious tactical location on a big hill above the River Thames, & was a division of a collection of palaces around London, with the Tower of London, one day’s trek away, at its core.

The Palace was later on reconstructed in stone, and grew in value over the forthcoming years. Henry 2nd erected the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the structure’s principal role became that of a royal house. Windsor Castle has remained mainly unaffected from the early nineteenth century, apart from the repair effort after the dreadful fire in 1992.

Smelling Blood in the Water

So the statistics are finally starting to emerge, and nobody but the spokespersons for our real estate brokerage industry, our debonair denizens of denial and flagrant fanners of fantasy can gainsay the obvious: the housing market is softening, and it is doing so quickly and rather dramatically. Prices are softening, unsold inventory is rising quickly, and new construction is clearly on the decline. The New York Times pointed all this out in its May 9 Business Section and, as we all know, once the “Old Grey Lady” spots a trend, it’s well underway or, perhaps, very nearly over.

Real estate investors, over the last couple of years, are the equivalent of the late 1990’s high-tech moguls, persuaded beyond any reason that profits were limitless and that the market would, indeed, go up forever. Yes, folks, it’s the tulips again! For those who may not recall 17th Century Holland (all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, even I can’t remember back that far), irrational and maniacal speculation in tulip bulbs in that era drove the prices up exponentially, until, predictably, the market crashed. I say, “predictably,” even though every time speculative frenzy overtakes society, whether it be a dotcom investment environment “unburdened by earnings” or a frothy real estate market which must go up forever because “they ain’t making any more,” we seem to have to learn the same lesson over and over again.

Is it a lack of intergenerational memory? We certainly don’t have much sense of history, yet most of us know at least something about the Great Depression and Stock Market crashes of the past. Is it mere self-deception, i.e., the determination to think ourselves so clever that we’ve all become real estate moguls? In the late 1990’s, I remember clearly being surrounded at my tennis club by 20-somethings, knee-deep in internet-land, sipping well-aged single-malt scotch, and puffing on expensive cigars, secure and, indeed, smug, in their status as “captains of industry.”

I wonder what happened to those guys?

In truth, it is hard to say why we seem to have to keep learning the same lessons over and over again. This is, perhaps, a question better put to sociologists, and not to lawyers and financial people. But the consequences are, as ever, predictable, to those who see the writing on the wall.

In a previous article, I pointed out that the decline in housing values, coupled with other developments in banking, consumer lending and revisions to the Bankruptcy Code all portended very poorly for the American Middle Class. Depending on what happens in this area in the near future, a similar prognosis may, I am afraid, await the Upper Middle Class who also have a great deal of their wealth tied up in their homes.

Until only a few months ago, clients and colleagues were begging me to find them deals in “distressed” properties. There was, at the time, virtually no such thing, because no sooner had someone gotten wind of a property owner with a financial problem, that the bidding war began, raising “distressed” properties fully to market value (there may well have been no such thing as “market value” either). Now I have the very clear sense that those properties may soon be plentiful. Those who have had the sense to “keep their powder dry” and who have the foresight over the next year or two to begin nibbling at opportunities and the patience to hold the properties they acquire, will, in this writer’s opinion, be well-rewarded. Much as the good leavings of the dotcom meal were feasted upon by so-called “vulture funds,” the sharks may soon be smelling the blood in real estate, and might be slowly, oh, so slowly, beginning to circle.

Play Baccarat – A Simple, Fun Game, With Good Odds

If you play baccarat you will be participating in a game that is easy to learn, is good fun and has surprisingly good odds.

Here we will look at the rules for playing baccarat and some strategies that will soon have you playing like a pro.

The goal when playing Baccarat is simply to draw a two or three card hand with a value closer to 9 than the banker’s hand.

The Value of the Cards

When you play baccarat the cards have the following values

• Numbered cards have their face value.

• 10, Jack, Queen and King count as 0.

• Ace counts as 1.

• If the value of your cards is more than ten, you subtract 10. So a 8-9 hand totals 7 (after subtracting 10 from 17)

Playing baccarat

Two hands are dealt one for the Banker and one for the Player. Before the deal, the player wagers on whether the Player’s hand or the Banker’s hand is closest to the total of 9. The player also has the option to wager on a tie i.e. both hands are of the same value

Baccarat is a card game that is dealt from a shoe that holds 6 or 8 decks. Before the hands are dealt, bets may be placed.
Once bets have been placed, the banker hand and the player hand are dealt according to fixed rules, giving final hands of either two or three cards for each.

The value of a hand is determined by adding the values of its cards to get a total. Tens and face cards are counted as zero, while all other cards are counted by the number of “pips” on the card face.

Only the last digit of the total is used, so all baccarat hands have values in the range 0 to 9 inclusive. The hand with the higher value wins; if the hands have the same value, the result is of course a tie.

Sequence of play

When playing baccarat a game is started by dealing two cards for the player hand and two cards for the bank hand. An initial hand with a value of 8 or 9 is called a “natural.”

If either hand is a natural, its holder must expose it and the game is over.

If this does not occur play continues, first with the player hand and then with the banker hand, according to the following rules.

Rules for the player hand: If the player’s first two cards total 6 or more, then the player must stand without drawing a card. If the player’s first two cards total 5 or less, the player must draw one additional card.

Rules for the banker hand: If the banker’s first two cards total 7 or more, then the banker must stand without drawing a card. If the banker’s first two cards total 0, 1, or 2, then the banker must draw one card. If the banker’s first two cards total 3, 4, 5, or 6, then whether the banker draws is determined by the whether the player drew, and if so the value of the player’s draw card, as shown below.

Bets

Banker: 1- 1 (5% commission to the house)

Player: 1 -1

Tie: 8 -1

There is only one good bet in baccarat and that’s the banker.

When you play baccarat increase your chances of winning by:

1. Number of decks: Choose the game with as few decks as possible.

2. Commission: Look for the casino that charge a commission on banker bets lower than 5% if you can find one.

3. Bet on the banker. This bet has the lowest house edge and is the one to go for.

4. Money management. Work out the plan for the gaming session and follow it, don’t spend more money than you should chasing loses.

5. Don’t use baccarat systems. It is futile to base your gaming decisions on results of previous bets.
Follow the above guidelines and when you play baccarat you will not only have fun, but also have a strategy that can increase your odds of success.
