Catered Chalet Bargains Are to Be Had Thanks to the Recession

With the sterling fetching less than the euro at Travelex, you’d believe that there would be some good skiing break ski deals to be found in alpine ski resorts this Christmas as potential skiers remain at home to avoid the recession. Initial numbers recently publicized show that skiing areas are 85 percent full across the Xmas period. 14 % up on the same time period last season which is good news particularly with the present economic outlook.

One will have more luck in January which currently has a 39 percent reservation level. Signs of a recession is over the key Feb ski vacation month that has 64 % bookings, 1 % down on last ski season. Reservation bureaus in the domains of Gourette, Auron, Serre Chevalier and Brevent have noted strong inquiries in December encouraged by the excellent early ski season snows. Meribel has stronger bookings compared to last season, and Auron experienced a fantastic Christmas.

However there is strong interest in larger luxury chalet, 5 to 10 spaces, as people group together to save. Evidence highlights that do it yourself skiing breaks are doing well, evidence perhaps that earnest skiers will not give up their trip to the mountains. Bookings from package ski holidays are lower than last year.
